Recap: We decided to go tiny. There were no lots. We found a lot that wasn't listed. We sold our house that wasn't listed. We went to make an offer on the lot and voila- just like that you have the cliff notes of the beginning of the story. If you want the full recap, click here. So, we went to make an offer on the lot, which interestingly enough was only about .2 mile from our big house. Matt was pumped. He was all in. In fact, I hadn't seen him so excited about anything in a long time. On the other hand, I was less optimistic. I knew a lot had to happen for this all to work out. I was excited, but moreso about the queso I had just eaten for lunch. So we knocked on the stranger's door. Let's call him Mr. B. Actually Matt had talked to him several times at this point and they were now buddies. Mr. B had enough land to divide it into several lots if he so chose. In fact, Matt even said he thought if the lot we wanted sold, Mr. B would probably sell us the one right next to it.
So, anyway, we knocked on Mr. B's door and he immediately said, "The guy a couple houses down bought that lot you were interested in, Matt. Not only did he buy that lot, but he bought another one right next to it." It was at that moment that the look of disappointment covered Matt's face. You see, Matt realized there was no land left for us. Matt kept it together and told Mr. B that we had come over to tell him we wanted to buy it. Mr. B just said that he would let us know if anything changed. And we left with sadness in our hearts to go back to the big house where I would binge on the leftover queso. In the car on the 30 second ride to the big house, (I know I should've walked, but I already had my steps for that day and I wasn't in the mood to overachieve.) I told Matt that I was sorry and I knew how disappointed he was. In my heart I was like- well at least I get to keep my big pantry and deep bathtub. And my pot filler. PLEASE let's not forget the pot filler. But really I was confused. You see, Matt and I had felt like God had been telling us for quite some time that our focus in life was all wrong. Then, when we finally decided to surrender and do what we thought He wanted, He slammed doors in our faces left and right. Why? Did He just want to see if we would be obedient? At some point that night I remember saying, "You know if it is meant to be we will get that lot." And Matt said, "I know." And then I went and took a long bubble bath with lavender essential oils and went to sleep. And I might've eaten some Mexican layer dip for dinner. Click here to get notified when I post!
